The Frazier Mud Track

This page contains information concerning a track found on land In central Kentucky. The track was found in 2002 in wet mud in a creek bank in a remote portion of a 100+ acre farm. The track was found by the property owner who is a retired engineer. The track was fresh and was made over night. Five pictures were taken with a 35 mill camera. The images were scanned to a computer then sent to me in 2007. I used Photoshop CS2 and Photozoom Pro to analyze the photos and add comments to the images. Upon seeing this track the property owner went to his house and got a camera and a Lufkin ruler and also contacted a friend to come along as a witness.

The Track Size

The image below shows the exact size of the track. Using Photoshop CS2 I cut out a 5 inch section of the ruler and then placed the section in layers over the track to get as an exact size as possible vertically and horizontally, the section at the bottom of the page and under the Lufkin ruler is to show the cut out section maintained dimension. The track is approximately 4 inches by 4 inches with the track being even bigger a possibility.

Dog Track Comparison

The image below shows the comparison of the Frazier Mud Track and a dog track, the obvious distinctions that make a dog track a dog track are missing in the Frazier Mud Track. Above the first toe on the left you can see what appears to be a claw/toenail impression yet there are none on the other three toes and the mud is extremely conducive to making an excellent impression.

Dog & Large Cat Track Comparison

The image below shows the comparison of the Frazier Mud Track and a dog and large cat track, the specifics that would make this track a dog or a large cat track are not in place. With the 3 lobed heel pad being missing ( see heel pad image in next section )

The Heel Pad

The image below gives a close look at the Frazier Mud Track heel pad. This heel pad does not match a large cat track as there are no 3 lobes, and, the heel pad imprint does not match any heel pad I can find referenced. The heel pad has a strange formation to it and appears to fan out and possibly end in symmetrical ends. If you look closely the edges of the heel pad are clearly defined and the inside of the heel pad shows a solid body and does not appear to be separated nor have anything laying over it. The extension of the heel pad to the left and right are certainly rather strange and seem to end oddly.
